The first day of school. Nice white tennis shoes lined the hallways, and new blue jeans. The teachers put on their cutest skirts, and grab their big cups of coffee and get the "Good morning kids" voice. It is fun. It is easy to smile with all of these fresh little minds in a building. Many first days of school for me involved stomach aches, because I didn't want to leave summer behind, or be away from my mom. My mom and dad would always assure me "you'll be fine, you'll be with your friends." I think though it was to make them feel good to, because they wanted us to learn, but another year of school also means another year older. Then there were the mornings of trying to get ready so we wouldn't miss the school bus. We missed the bus so many times our parents told us we would have to walk to school if we missed it again, of course the three of us missed it and started walking, the poor bus driver saw us down the road and picked us up. How funny. Now as an adult I still find myself getting ready for the first day of school. Laying out my new clothes the night before, trying this shirt on, and that. However today my favorite thing was walking in the office to do some copying and laminating for some final room decorations. "Mrs. McLaughlin, we have something for you here." I look on the counter to see the most beautfiul bouquet of flowers. I was so anxious to open the card, and a hugh smile came to my face and big lump in my throat as I read, "Love Your Husband." What a great guy. When I was single sometimes ladies would get flowers on the first day, now I'm one of them. Thoughtful gifts always make my heart jump over the moon. Coy, you made my first day of school extra special. I will tuck this day away with many other fond, first day of school memories.
